Mission Statement
The Amgen Foundation seeks to advance science education, improve quality of care and access for patients, and support resources that create sound communities where Amgen staff members live and work.
The Amgen Foundation: A History of Giving
One of the most important vehicles for Amgen’s corporate philanthropy is the Amgen Foundation. Launched in 1991, the Foundation is an integral component of Amgen’s commitment to dramatically improve people’s lives. To date, the Foundation has contributed $130 million to nonprofit organizations across the United States, Puerto Rico and Europe that align with the Foundation's mission.
Philanthropic Focus
In 2008, the Amgen Foundation invested close to $21 million and committed millions more to the development of key partnerships. Grants were made to more than 100 organizations that reflect Amgen’s core values and complement Amgen’s dedication to impacting lives in inspiring and innovative ways. The Foundation’s philanthropic efforts are focused on the following three areas:
Quality of Care and Access for Patients
The Foundation funds programs dedicated to providing patients, caregivers and health care practitioners with information, education and access. These programs are directed at patient navigation, seniors, health disparities, healthcare interpreting and preventative care and patient support.
Science Education
The Foundation is committed to raising the value of science literacy for both students and teachers. In this area, the Foundation seeks to identify programs that provide pivotal hands-on science experiences for students, as well as those that seek to support teacher quality and provide professional development.
Community Life
The Foundation dedicates substantial resources to strengthening and enriching the community, thereby making it a more desirable place to live and work. This investment helps to ensure that essential health and socials services, environmental programs, the excitement of the sciences and the richness of the arts are more accessible to all members of the community.
